Traveling to regattas: Limit yourself to a sailing bag, overnight bag, and a backpack if you’re planning on doing homework in the car. When we pack up the car for a trip, you only have access to your backpack

Sailing bag: The weather in Newport may be very different than where we are traveling, especially if going north. Overpack for warmth, it is much better than being cold.

·       Sunglasses

·       Watch

·       Sunscreen

·       Reusable water bottle: it is a sailing rule that plastic water bottles are banned

·       Bailer

·       Gloves, Hat, Gaiter

·       Boots

·       Pinnie and Coast Guard approved life jacket

·       Team Polo

·       Socks for each day

·       Shorts/pants for each day

·       Appropriate base layers and fleeces

·       Spray tops and bottoms (better to be over prepared)

·       Waterproof bag (At the end of a long day, your gear is going to be wet. In order to keep your other gear dry, put your wet belongings in the waterproof bag, and then into your sailing bag. Once you get to the place you’re staying at for the night, bring the waterproof bag in, and hang up all your wet gear to dry)

Overnight bag: You do not need to pack much. In the beginning you may want to over pack, but honestly you won’t be doing anything at night.

·       Pants (leggings): While these are for sailing, I like to pack at least one pair in this bag so I can put it on in the morning. It is easier to change your shirt once you are at the venue, but there aren’t always convenient bathrooms so that’s why I wear my sailing pants there.

·       Sweatshirt/fleece

·       Pajamas: Keep in mind that some places you stay at might be colder than anticipated.

·       Toiletry bag: hairbrush, hair ties, toothbrush, toothpaste, face wash, ibuprofen (in case your body hurts from the car ride or sailing), mini shampoo/conditioner, anything else you think you’ll need

Backpack: Be realistic and bring only work you think you’ll do, because you won’t be able to do everything. This is where you need to plan and do most of your homework ahead of time. While you might think you will get work done in the van, no one really does.

·       Computer/charger: Depending on the length of the trip, I like to download a movie.

·       Headphones

·       Phone charger: If you have a car charger, bring that as well. Everyone will love you. However, I make sure my phone is fully charged before getting in the van.

·       Snack/Water

·       Wallet

·       Homework

Supplies: As a crew, you should try to be prepared for anything; from boat malfunctions to keeping your skipper at the top of his/her game.

            For your lifejacket pocket:

·       Electrical tape

·       Pin and ring ding

·       Snack: If it is going to be a long day on the water, with limited breaks, I usually make sure to pack a snack for my skipper/crew and me. Depending on my skipper’s preferences, it ranges from a pack of gum, fruit snacks, or a granola bar. I ask my skipper in the morning while we are getting ready what they prefer. If they say nothing, I still bring something out anyway.

·       Small tube of sunscreen: It is crucial that you reapply your sunscreen throughout the day. You don’t want wrinkles when you’re 22!
